Your teeth are the central point of your smile, so it’s natural to focus on them. But you can’t have healthy teeth without healthy gums. In fact, gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss among adults. It’s also common, with half of all American adults having some form of it. We’re serious about keeping both your gums and teeth healthy with gum disease treatment in Chattanooga.Doctor Robert Gallien on gum disease treatment Read Transcript
How we approach gum disease I think is above and beyond what I see in most places and what's being done all the way around. I think that first off, it needs to be accurately detected and figure out what exactly needs to happen for the patient. Then it needs to have the proper treatment done. A few of the things that we do at this practice that are different than maybe other places, we have unique tools that the patient can use that are going to give them the long-lasting results that we're looking for. We have the highest-tech lasers that are going to give a surgery-free experience because you can either go in for surgery and have gum surgery, or we can do nonsurgical laser therapy, which is fantastic. It's phenomenal.
So that's one of the highlights that I think we give that you can't always get everywhere else, and you don't even have ... with the use of the laser, it gives an all-natural approach rather than having to switch and use antibiotics, which we all know are used too often, too many times, and should only be used when they're needed. I feel like our protocol for getting gums healthy, I've seen over the last decade tremendous results from our patients, and I've been very proud knowing that I've helped them keep their teeth for the rest of their life.
With our treatment, we:
- Focus on prevention and early detection
- Use a laser to ensure our deep cleaning procedure is as comfortable as possible
- Improve your dental health, and your overall health too
- Eliminate unpleasant symptoms like bleeding gums and bad breath
We Stop Gum Disease in Its Early Stages
We look for indications of gum disease during every dental exam. In the earliest stages of the disease, a simple dental cleaning can stop it from progressing. In cases where gums have begun pulling away from teeth, creating “pockets” where bacteria can collect, we use a deep cleaning treatment called scaling and root planing. The process removes bacteria from above and below your gumline and smooths your tooth roots to make it harder for bacteria to accumulate. We may also apply an antibiotic for additional bacteria-fighting strength.
We’ll review your oral hygiene practices with you and likely make suggestions for improvements. We may recommend:
- An electric toothbrush
- A periodontal toothbrush
- Application of fluoride
- Mouth rinses or similar products
